Release

Ex_tension - Ingérence
"Ingérence" collects a small selection of rare Ex_Tension material consisting of colaborative material, remixes and a tribute piece to Jhonn Balance of Coil. An excellent oportunity to hear reinterpretations of the work of artists as diverse as .cut, Chrysalide and Geomatic and understand how the sound of experimental music legends Coil influenced this talented French duo.

Reviews

V/A - Main Control Board
Two years in the making, "Main Control Board" is a release about which the Lagunamuch Community is particularly proud - with good reason. Sort of a sequel to "Deep Sea Shipping" (2006), but with thematic aspirations turned toward the void and its mercurial physics of raw energies and gravitational stresses, this compilation is unmixed, a series of twelve stand-alone tracks meticulously selected to compliment each other.

Phelios - Astral Unity
A title like "Astral Unity" gives worrying images of hippies enjoying psychedelic experiences, but luckily this is German dark ambient artist, Phelios, with his fourth full length album and there is no departure into lighter territory. This album is a pleasingly sombre affair, highly suitable for a quiet evening contemplating the sorry state of your life or perhaps reading up on the mysteries of the occult.

Svartsinn - Elegies For The End
The Norwegian musician Jan Roger Pettersen has been releasing dark ambient compositions under the name of Svartsinn for ten years now, and although the last five years have been rather quiet in terms of output, he has now released an anniversary double CD. "Elegies For The End" (this is hopefully not the end of Svartsinn) consists of four new tracks clocking in at just under thirty-five minutes and a full length disc of remixes by various associates.

Orfeo 5 - A Year on the Ice
This record and grouping transcends many different genres and will likely surprise most listeners, while at the same time hopefully opening some of their horizons. No 'club hits' here, but that's not really what the composers were going for either. This is sort of background/thinking/pondering music.

Snog - Last of the Great Romantics
Lyrically this album, despite the pervading darkness, is full of acid wit and some marvellous observations on modern life, but musically it feels tired, and aside from the odd exception, it's nothing too spectacular. But then, even Snog on a musical off-day is a damned sight more interesting and relevant than many other bands.

Reviews

Architect - Consume Adapt Create
Something about "Consume Adapt Create" makes it seem harder, edgier and more focused than Myer's recent Architect albums. Everything about it is tight, precise and crystal clear. "Consume Adapt Create" is powerful, occasionally aggressive, sometimes haunting and often euphoric in a number of different but equally defining ways.

Kiew - Mental [Per]mutation
An interesting journey of discovery if dissonance, abstraction and surrealism is your cup of tea - especially if it comes in the form of a seamless fusion of experimental noise ambiances and industrial rhythms with gabba influences and a Dadaistic approach, quite humorous and heavily reliant on sampling and collage. KiEw once more deliver a consistent interesting slab of aural entertainment - no more nor less than what one would expect from a project which has consistently proved its worth in the past.

Life's Decay - Dysrieuses
Life's Decay's music has all the elements almost guaranteed to antagonize an eighties industrial diehard - rolling pianos, strings, overt romanticism - and yet... it somehow works for me, although I must be very far from their target audience. In fact this is probably the most explicitly and conventionally musical album I've ever reviewed.

Kernel Drop - The Dreambox
"The Dreambox" just lacks that emotive something, lost somewhere in one too many progressions on a linear trajectory.
